I have a strange question..we have a new flock of laying hens, 21 in all. Mixture of Red Stars, orpingtons, Americanas, and Anaconas.
They are all very healthy, active, growing well etc..I have one Anacona that is always sleeping??? Other than the sleeping she is seemingly perfectly healthy...just seems weird..any ideas on what is going on with her?

Watch her to make sure she isn't puffed up and lethargic, which are early signs of cocci. Does she wake up and act alert at times? Has she always been like this? Any bloody poos? If you suspect cocci, you might get some corid from the feed store and put them all on it. Could she just be a failure to thrive chick? Are they all the same age?

Yes they are all the same age, and yes she does wake up at times and seem active for a little bit, then back to sleepy time...no bloody poos..she is the same size as the other chicks...and she is eating and drinking fine...just always wants to sleep. When I went in the coop tonight she was on the top perch sleeping..so she got up there fine...idk

Is she the only chick of this breed? I ask because our 2012 Maran has always slept more than any other hens and the 2013 Maran chick also spends lots of time napping.

No there are 5 Anaconas...weird huh? I'm not really worried, more curious, because she seems healthy in every other way...certainly want all the feed back ;) thank you

Lil girl is better tonight, I checked what they were vaccinated against & cocci was one of them...we moved them on Sunday from inside to the hen house...I'm going to chalk it up to being stressed...glad she was the only one <3

Glad she is better. Anconas are beautiful chickens--so gorgeous at hatching, and then mine are just pretty birds with the white spots in the black feathers. They lay a large white egg.

Thank you Eggcessive :) one of the Anaconas runs p to me to be picked up and loved, she's awesome..i love them all so much!! Can't wait till I can let them out to free range, they are going to love it!!
