I have a 4 month old barred rock pullet. This evening I noticed she was just standing in the run snoozing while everyone was pecking around.
I watched her for a good 20 minutes and she kept standing still, opening an eye then closing again to nap. I brought her inside to see if she was eating/drinking and what her poop looked like. All looked normal, she even perked up. I put her back out with everyone and she acted fine for a bit, then went up to roost and just went to sleep before everyone else. Even through all the evening commotion she just slept.
She was fine all afternoon. I was in the pen with them for hours because we were expanding their run and putting some finishing touches on their new coop. She was chasing the dog and running around and doing her usual stuff. Just started to get sleepy around 6 or so.
Is it possible that she is just tired since she did have an exciting day (exciting for a chicken that is)... Or is she getting sick? She just isn't acting like the other chickens so she stood out to me.
I brought her back inside and separated her for observation overnight just in case. She is alert and acting normal and slightly annoyed now that she is inside and away from everyone.
Anyone have any experience with a sleepy chicken? Am I overreacting?
