one of my girls has an open wound to her rear thanks to a magpie attack and slicing her open. Have seperated her from other girls as they were pecking at it. She seem fine wants to snooze but other than that all happy eating drinking etc but for the would to large open space guessing that egg space. Anyway will she need putting down or not? obviously hard to know without seeing but it stopped bleeding quickly and she seems fine.

How you describe her activeness I wouldn't put her down. Clean off the wound with a warm wet wash-cloth. Dry off the wound. Put some Lanolin or Neosporin on wound. (Make sure it's just a dab, because if she grooms the lanolin/Neosporin will smear all over her feathers and become a mess.)

On top of that, put a dab of Blu-Kote on it. The hens' won't pick at it because you can see any red anymore.

Good luck~

she is doing better but found a second chook with similar not as bad wound in same place so have set up a mini chicken hospital lucky it was 2 chooks whom are very close friends. First chicken who is worse of is eating and drinking on her own was a bit dehydrated a few days after so got calcium and aspro in her water and syringed it. Owner of chicken shop also recommended a egg and biscuit mix to get her to eat. She still keeping her eyes closed, hoping she will open up soon. Second chook not so bad off has one eye closed and both have snotty noses i cleaned some muck out of both think my niece(who looked after while I was Away for 2 day) was a little over anxious with the syringe and food. Anyway fist chook (munchkin) has been gurgling so I drained her nasal by tipping her gently up side down and lots of bubbles and clear muck drained out. She seems so much clearer and happier. I have also been spray wound with Wound spray couldn't find BlueKote in Australia but got something smilier. If anyone can make further suggestions on what I have or haven't done I would appreciate it

It's great she's doing better, I wasn't aware you lived in Australia, so hopefully you have Poly-vi-sol over there.
You can give your chickens Poly-vi-sol with no Iron it is baby vitamins, but chickens will have it also.

Instructions:
Per quart of water: use .5 mL of Poly-vi-sol
Per gallon of water: use 1 mL of Poly-vi-sol.

Good luck~

will try and find it they went down hill with a snotty nose infection so got some antibiotics and they are back ti their old selves in about a day and a half so nice to see and eating like little piggys so good to see so proud of myself to have nursed them
