I've never had a problem feeding bread. A while ago, I would go get a truck load of just expired bread from one of the bread shops near me. I was feeding about 2 loaves a day to 50 hens and also fattening up the horses. It worked great for me, I figure if I would eat it, so would my chickens. Good luck
