Slikie Club!

I noticed something odd, I had sparrows pretending to be chicken chicks, following my silkie hen around with little hops and foraging alongside the 5 2 week old chicks who seem to ignore them. :p

Judging by the yellow on the corners of their beaks, they are mainly young fledged sparrows that have recently stopped getting food from their parents, and tend to be fairly bold little things. I guess it is free food and protection from a confused/uninterested silkie hen.

My grandpa got me some silkie chicks to raise when I was 11. They were so sweet and wonderful. Sadly they didn't live long because he also had a fox living near his home.

My family got a flock of Silkies in June. They came from a pretty bad situation and we had to nurse them back to health. Soon after becoming well, the 2 older hens went broody. Now the partridge pullet and our d'Uccle mix pullet hang out together. They both think they are chicks and LOVE to sleep under the broody silkies at night. That will unfortunately have to end when I put the real eggs under the broodies tomorrow.

Hey y'all! I have 2 black silkies! I bought them separately and I don't know how long I should quarantine them... Any ideas? Also, one of my silkie girls sometimes sniffles and gently shivers. There is no discharge and she eats and drinks well. Help!
