Slipped tendon, splayed leg? Confused!

Hooray for Forrest! That's great!

Neutron does not put weight on the leg, even when it's wrapped, but he does sort of use the leg as a crutch to hold his balance while he hops around. I'm using flexi bandage, the kind that sticks to itself. It's pretty easy to get on and off. I'm changing it twice a day. As soon as it comes off, the tendon pops out of place again.

wow...need to superglue that tendon into place! Poor chickie! Maybe wrap once a day ? I dunno. I'm rooten' for Neutron! As long as he isn't in pain and you are willing I would stick it out.

Forrest is doing fine this a.m. In fact it takes me a minute to fuigure out which one he is!

Aww. Yay Forrest! Right back to normal!

Neutron wasn't looking so great when I went home at lunch. I noticed his foot was a little swollen. I took off the brace, and the joint is pretty swollen and red too, so swollen I can't get the tendon back into place. He's still acting normal though. He spends most of his day standing in the food bowl, eating..lol.

Not sure what to do though. Do chickens ever survive this long term without the tendon healing. Will he keep growing using only one leg?

Wow, I don't know . I find it hard to find info on slipped tendon .... which is frustrating. maybe sling him up in a hammock over his food bowl! It is so hard when they can't tell you "where it hurts"!

So, an update. I managed to straighten the leg by sort of massaging the knee into place, and then secured it with flexible bandage tape. He's standing well, and getting around the brooder just fine. But so far, after lots of reading, I haven't been able to find even one successful case of someone treating a chick with this problem. I would love to hear from anyone with experience in this.

It's face looks a little off as well...sideways somehow. It must have really been squished in that egg.

Oh no he looks cute, but it looks like he might have more than foot trouble is all. Like his eyes and beak aren't the same space apart on both sides...there's a thread about a slightly dopey faverolle with the same sort of thing going on with the sideways face...no big deal I guess. I didn't mean to make it sound like he is less cute...I have an EE chick that looks like Santa Claus....

I love the beards

It very well might be the picture and angle on it. I hope he gets going again with ease

You know, you might be right. After studying him this morning, I kind of see what you mean. Although, he does act normal, other than the gimpy leg.

I just wish he could tell me if he's in pain. I don't mind having a disabled chicken, but I want him to have a good quality of life. He acts pretty happy, but his leg looks a little worse every day.
