Today is day 18 and i am going into lockdown however the embryos dont look like they are developed as much as they should have by day 18 : can see about 15% albumin inside.... looks like day 14-15 egg. However, they are alive as i saw movement during candling today. The slow development is justified cuz i get power outages as different times for an average of 5 hours per day. So should i go into lock down or wait for a couple of days to cater for slow development? ?? Any quick replies will be highly appreciated.

Personally if the air cells are the right size I would go ahead and go into lockdown, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope. I had the same problem with my very first hatch being delayed (mine was due to low temps from trusting an unchecked thermometer that was reading higher than actual temps.) At lockdown I thought they looked delayed but they were all alive and moving so I was hopeful. I had one hatcher at day 24 that lived but has leg problems due to the delay in development and I had a hatcher at day 25 that didn't make it 24 hours. I hope you fair much better than I did, though and have good news at the end.

Thanks for sharing your experience Amy. Lets see what happens... fingers crossed.

Hey Amy thought i should update! Today was hatch day and one just hatched out in front of me. Looks perfectly healthy though i dont see much movement in the remaining three. Couldnt stop so i candled one earlier today was alive but not sure if ready to hatch.

That's great! Hope you get at least one more, a lonely chick can be a lot of work...lol

That wont be a problem since, coincidentally enough, my hen (Mrs. Speckles), also hatched 11 just today
