I began setting my eggs on November 19. They were all from the same kind of chickens and started at the same time and they started hatching as they should have on December 9th. By Sunday the 10th all were hatched except for 3. I have been wetting the eggs every evening since then. Normally after the 2 day of them still not hatching I would have discarded those last 3 but I have seen one of them moving when I put them in a bowl of warm water. What could be the cause of this one egg taking an extra 6-7 days to hatch???

Sometimes an incubator dose not disbursed the heat evenly so chicks will take longer to hatch but that usually only makes chicks 1-2 days late, if it 6 days past hatch date they are most likely dead.

Why did u put them in a bowl of water?

It's how I was taught to wet the eggs when it's close to time to hatch. Of course that is when hatching under a hen

There is one that isn't dead because I started hearing it cheaping in there yesterday and it popped the shell last night
Ok then I’d wait a little longer. Have you candled them?

Interesting, I’ve never heard of that before.

The only thing I can think of is how sure are you that it is a chicken egg and that it was started on that same day. There are several different reasons that an egg can be early or late but I can't think of any that would explain why it is that late and still alive. I know this sounds like I'm insulting your intelligence, that's not my intent. I just can't think of anything else.

I put 17 blue Cochin bantam eggs in my incubator on November 19th. Three didn't hatch that day, this one and two that weren't any good but all the others hatched on day 21. If I hadn't put those last three unhatched eggs in a bowl of warm water and actually saw one of them wiggle I have discarded all 3. I could literally see the egg wiggling in the water but couldn't hear anything in it until night before last when I began hearing Avery light tapping noise. Yesterday I could hear it chirping inside and this morning it was pipped and it emerged around noon today. It is a perfect blue Cochin chick. I have never even heard of this happening before but figured that this was the best place to find a answered.

I'm glad it hatched. It did not solve the mystery, just added to it. I still can't think of anything logical. The only illogical thought I have is that someone replaced one of the eggs after a week, maybe as a practical joke or something.
