I could swear every now and then one of my chickens, usually when sitting relaxed, will blink their eyes at me, just the same way that cats do (http://pets.webmd.com/cats/features/cat-body-language). This link suggests that when cats do this, it signals they don't view you as a threat.

Am I imagining this, or have others seen this in chickens? Do you interpret it as meaning the same thing? It could also just be a sign of lethargy....

My chicken does this to me! Usually when we are very relaxed, she’ll angle her head towards me and slowly blink a few times then move her head away. I perceive it to be a smile :))

I do this now with my baby chics! I start to slowly blink at them, and they’ll return the blinks, until they fall asleep…. Standing up! I learned this with our little budgies we had several years ago. When you blink at them, it let‘s them know that you’re not a predator, you’re a friend. When they blink back, they show trust, as they would never blink for a second in the eyes of a predator.
So awesome, I know!
