Hi all. I have 4 chicks, 3 of them leghorns and 1 australorp. All about 2 weeks old.

It seems that one of the leghorns is substantially smaller than the other 3 chicks. I did lose 2 chicks previously to coccidiosis but the rest of the flock seems to be okay now since I've fed them medicated water. All seem lively and active as well as eating and drinking well. Should i be worried about the little one or could it just be from the coccidiosis she may have had earlier?

Thanks!

Coccidia is a parasite and it would make sense that if it was taking her nutrients she would be smaller. I'm not sure if you should worm with Corid, but I've heard that coccidia can resurface later in life (not positive though). Maybe try some nutridrench to get her some better nutrients? That can help give her a health boost.

She seems healthy just lacking a bit of size compared to the others. I unfortunately only have one heat source so I can't take her out to isolate her.

Smaller is okay, if she seems healthy I wouldn't worry about isolating her. Just keep an eye out for a relapse--chicks with bloody poop, or standing alone and fluffed up, lethargic.

It could be from not getting as much nutrition early in life (from the coccidiosis) or could even just be genetic, or it could be a bunch of other things... :idunno

But if the chick is active, eating, drinking, etc - I wouldn't worry too much. Might just be a smaller chick.
