Slowing down in winter....yeah right!

Boy do I hear ya on the eggs! I have 14 BO hens...and get a dozen from there a day....8 RIR x, get 5 from them a day....usually get 3 from the 3 Langshan hens, and at least 3 from the EE...and 2 from the "hospital pen"(2 RIRx and 2 EE in there) , and 2 or 3 banty eggs...a day! Currently there are 20 dozen in my fridge. I am makeing a trip to town tomorrow, with at least 15 dozen...need to sell these eggs!! At least 2 dozen a day...woah! Slow down ladies!!

What you folks need is a good ice storm to slow them down. I was getting about four to five dozen eggs per day until we had the storm and lost power for a week.
Now I am lucky if I get a half dozen per day.
Also the eggs will keep for much much longer than a week in the fridge.

Bla Bla Bla Eggs Eggs Eggs.... I don't want to hear it:D...I almost had to.... GASP .....buy eggs at the grocery store yesterday....(sob, cry, sniff)......I decided not to do artificial light in the coop for winter because the girls were making more eggs than we could keep up with. I thought I would give them a break. We were eating the eggs , giving them to family and friends....NOW I have TWO eggs in my fridge. Not two dozen.....TWO. Oh well I guess it will give my cholesterol some time to recover until the spring comes.

Do you think free ranging hens make more eggs than hens that are in a run all day? My girls have access to have an acre of green grass and apples all day.

I have 8 laying girls and yesterday I got 9 eggs and then got another 5 today!!! It was -16 this morning and I have 18 inches of snow on the ground. I was told too that they would lay less during the winter. If this is less, I am really in for it in the spring!!!!
