Today I scored! I woke up to the sound of rocks being thrown into a trash bin. Oh how I would love those. As an extra measure of protection around the run I'm gonna put a layer of rocks over where I'll bury the chicken wire to deter the dogs from digging. So I asked the neighbor if they would like a place to dump those rocks and told them what I could use them for. Their dumper reaches right over the fence. So it's a win-win for both of us. So I thought that was cool.

I lost my brooder tho. I had scored a huge air conditioner crate but hubby loved it and filled it with firewood.

I made a majpr score today as well... Hubby got a work order to remove all debris from a property. Sitting in the garage was a HUGE left over piece of vinyl. More than enough to cover my coop floor and go up the sides of the wall a little bit. LOL... might be enough for a second small coop. Ahem... if there will be a second one. *winks*

Congrats on your find. I'm hoping to find some nice pretty garden rocks to put around part of my coop too.

Do you get that warm fuzzy feelings when you find and recycle good materials? I sure do. Shrugs... maybe I'm just an odd egg.

I put an old plastic barrel to re-work in my garden this weekend. One half is my new water collection barrel and the other will become part of a new planter. All this and the old tires Im using as planting beds makes me feel like the Recycle King.

Oh if it can be repurposed I'm all for it. For me it's two fold. Great financially as well as environmentally. We're gonna get a used truck next year so I can do a little more salvaging.

dave, my Dad (who I call Farmer John) SWEARS by tires placed vertically by your tomatoes. The black rubber gathers heat all day and radiates is back at your tomatoes all night. He must be on to something as his tomatoes are always 6 ft. tall and extremely productive.

Sarah - Don't hesitate to ask all your friends and acquaintances if they have any useable building materials in their garages/basements that they'd like to be rid of. When they find out what you're building, they are often more than happy to send materials your way. Everybody wins!

Thats why they are so good for growing warm rooted plants like tomatoes melons and cukes in. And why they make such dandy base planters for a fall/winter garden.

Talk about everyone scoring big for there chicken coop I did too. I found a nice light dog house for my tractor coop for my chickens on craiglist for $20 dollars!!! Just some adjustment and it will work out fine. So excited!!
