I just drove a couple of hours to pick up some blue laced red Wyandotte’s hatching eggs. When I arrived I saw that half of his hen were actually silver laced wyandottes. Since I had driven so far and the eggs were a pretty good price I got them anyway. I am wondering if there will be a way to tell at hatch which ones are pure blrw and which ones are mixed with the silver laced. He mentioned that the mixed ones may also be sex linked? Is that true? He has a splash laced roo, three slw hens, and a splash laced and a blue laced hen.

That combination should produce these kinds of chicks:

Splash Laced Red male x Black Laced Silver (SLW) hen
--Blue Laced Red daughters
--Blue Laced Silver sons
Yes, this cross gives sex links. The "red" and "silver" may not be the pretty shades you would find in purebreds, but should look different enough that you can sex the chicks once they grow feathers.

Splash Laced Red male x Splash Laced Red hen
--Splash Laced Red chicks of both genders

Splash Laced Red male x Blue Laced Red hen
--Splash Laced Red chicks of both genders
--Blue Laced Red chicks of both genders

Thanks for the response! Do I have to wait for them to feather out to sex, or can I pick out the silver ones right away?

All of the laced Wyandottes tend to have a lot of black (or blue or splash) in their chick down, so it can be difficult to tell whether they are also gold/red or silver. Photos of Gold Laced and Silver Laced chicks often look alike to me, although some other people seem able to distinguish them, so I really cannot say whether it will be clear to you or not. And of course the black/blue/splash variations will not make it any easier!
