SLW/Lavender Orpington…why is this so confusing??

I named one of my Orpington hens Cuddle Bug, Bug for short! She runs up to me and rests her head on my lap for some love!

Orpington cockerels would be your best bet if you want your daughter near your flock!

Oh sweet! Yes my other ones have been great with my kids so far. I also have a 4 and 7 year old who the chicks love to climb on and be held by. Plus…it may be in my head but the Orpington feathers, especially my Buff’s seem sooo soft compared to the others. I could sit petting them for hours. They should have chicken therapy, it’s so relaxing!

My Orpington cockerels were the sweetest even right now they are.
I couldnt keep them, but the new owners have never had problem with their kids touching them. One did pass away, but she had my BCM cock and he is amazing to.
It was really hard to get rid of the last orp he was special. Never did he ever over push a hen even when he was starting to try and breed. Sweet always letting them eat first.
Now he is being used in a really good breeding program

My Orpington hen definitely has some soft feathers! I would definitely suggest using the Orpington roosters for your flock!

I think it's too early to tell gender for sure. I'm leaning cockerel for the Orp, but if it's the same bird in all three photos then I'm not sure. It looks a lot like a pullet in the last photo. The first Wyandotte has a pretty red comb, but SLW do tend to comb up early. I think the second is for sure a pullet.

That is very true, they could fool us for awhile yet. The last Orpington picture is of one of my other ones for comparison. I definitely think she is a pullet!

Yes the SLW seem kind of confusing. I’m all of my nonexperience! Total newb here. But how red/pink they both are and in the close up the waddles seem so bright in real life. Unfortunately they are the only SLW’s I have to compare. But the waddles on all my others are so much smaller and lighter, other than the Orpington I have in the picture.
