SLW...pullet or roo?

This is Feisty. I have reason to believe she is a pullet, but I'm keeping watch. Guess I really won't know til s/he lays or crows, but I thought I'd ask what y'all thought. She was a very light/silvery colored chick in comparison to my other SLW. She's very friendly and curious, the 'mother' of the flock. You'll notice the uneven waddles, another curious addition to this chick. Oh yeah, and no noticeable leg spurs; same little bump as all the others. She is just shy of 9 weeks...okay, maybe he; either way I'm keeping Feisty!

Well, here's my SLW at 7 weeks. We are really hoping hen and your picture is renewing that hope ?

Now mine obviously has the wrong comb for a SLW so I don't know how that figures into things. Mine has much darker wings than yours? Is that a factor? Do you have a photo of your SLW hen? Thanks and good luck with Feisty.

I need to get a close up of her. Her comb is red, but no larger that than of the other hen.

The reason I ask about Feisty is because I had a couple other SLW that had HUGE combs that were pinking up by 3 weeks. Feisty and the pic of the 3rd hen didn't start pinking up until at least 6 or 7 weeks and their combs remain a fraction of the other little guys; who one is reported as 100% roo. In looking at full grown SLW hens, their combs can get pretty big but apparently lack the degree of ridging found in the roos. Feisty has little, if any ridging that I can determine.

Boy, what a guessing game!! Thanks for those pictures. Are they all nine weeks? Should the hens stay orange right up until they start laying or is it a gradual thing? Is the one in the last picture 9 weeks also and is it a definite hen? They are all really pretty birds.

I agree, a guessing game; although at this point I have nothing but patience. Yes, all of mine are 9 weeks. I don't know about the pinking aspect, but I have seen many a SLW hen that has a good sized, bright colored comb...so I'm waiting to hear from some of the experts, I guess. They are all fun and friendly at this point, so whether hen or roo matters not unless the crowing or aggressiveness gets out of hand.

When they do lay or crow I will follow up. I think this sexing thing is tricky because each chicken is so individual.
