SLW roo or pullet?



Yeah, the original SLW in question in this thread made it pretty obvious he was a boy from and early age. He was a good boy when the last picture was posted and has since become a monster. He needs daily reminders to be respectful. His successor, an EE is almost 4 weeks old in the basement. :) I agree, hens are much prettier.

Forget stance, coloring, and feather points. If a young bird has a red comb it is a boy

I'm having a little difficulty getting a good picture, but even in the fuzzier, bad pictures the pinker comb does stand out.

And that's the only indicator you need. Hens don't go red till right before they lay. . So any really young chick with red in their face is always a boy

This is so true! Folks go on about how fast it feathers in or doesn't, how it interacts with the other birds, how friendly it is, etc...when it's got a big ol comb staring them in the face at 6 weeks. We see it over and over here, but I know denial is powerful!
