SLWs 4 weeks old- no feathering!

Hi! I got these two babies from a breeder who wing-sexes. They were teeny fuzzy babies and now when compared with the Orps and the Amerucaunas, they're still teeny and fuzzy! Do SLWs feather later? Or am I dealing with undercover Roos? Any input is welcome!

So did the breeder lie to me about their age? I know they're at least 2 weeks old; I picked them out 2 Wednesdays ago. She said all of them were 2 weeks old. I'm new to chickens so I'm sure I wouldn't have been any the wiser if these two were younger. They are awfully small compared to the Orps and EEs. I kept telling my husband maybe we should move them in with the Silkies since they were more comparable in size! Ugh. I guess we'll have to wait longer now!

Here is my SLW

This looks like about 2 weeks to me. If they were tiny and fluffy when you got them they were 1day-1 week old.

We have a two week old SLW that looks a lot like that. It is also the smallest of our bunch and the slowest to feather!

This is my BLRW at 4 weeks old, standing next to my Rhode Island Red, the same age. They have the same hatch date, but the Wyandotte stayed small and has always been behind the others in development. I thought maybe it was a breed thing.





Here is how she looked at 3 weeks old (same age olive egger behind her):



I would guess your chicks are not even three weeks old, if they are not caught up to a slow developer.

But I have found that people I bought chicks from, don't always keep track of which chick hatched on which actual day. They will say something like, "Oh, this one hatched a couple of weeks ago", but they don't really know, they just have them all mixed together. But you would think she would be aware if she just had new chicks hatched.

Maybe she meant none of them were more than two weeks old. Like I said, a lot of times they don't keep track and will be vague about ages.

In my experience, Wyandottes do feather in slower than other breeds. But, those bird look closer to 2 weeks than to 4 weeks.
