I just want 1 chicken, but think she will be lonely. Dont need more than I chicken as I dont need that many eggs. I was thinking of getting just 1 black sexlink... but I should get her a friend.. what do you recommend for a small low food eating friend? As this friend would be a money loss in food. Something smaller than a banty and like i said i wouldn't need any more eggs.. maybe a quail?

Chickens are very social so it is a good idea to get more then one. I would get a bantam cochin, there sweet, quite, small, and don't eat a lot, they don't lay a lot either.

You need at least two chickens because they are social creatures and need to live in a flock. If you just got one she will get depressed and may stop laying eggs. Not the ideal situation.

As others have said, chickens NEED another chicken around. In fact, the ideal minimal flock would consist of three just in case one died, you'd still have another chicken for the lone survivor. If you don't need a lot of eggs, just get a breed that doesn't lay every day. There are so many different breeds out there, there is one for every situation. Even yours.

You are right, a chick raised alone is a very lonely chick and a lone hen will be lonely, they very much enjoy having flockmates. Another black sex link won't eat that much more then any other bird you get to be her friend and she will definitely bond well with one of her own kind. It is money well spent.
