I am moving. I need a small coop or something that I can put out in the middle of the yard so that the chickens' food will be sheltered and they can go inside for wind protection. I will be locking them in the garage at night so this is only for daytime housing.
I just need ideas, maybe there's something I haven't thought of that I could use.
Although this will be temporary, I can still use it when their pasture is fenced in. It needs to be somewhat moveable because for now it's going in the front yard where there is a chain link fence to protect them from wandering dogs that the neighbors don't put up.

Is it okay to post this in another forum?

Thanks,
Cheryl

There are articles on here, YouTube, and elsewhere online with coops made from pallets, wooden crates, old campers, old trailers, and I recall seeing someone using a cardboard box for shelter in a chicken tractor! Not recommending that last one.

Temporary housing is such a pain. You have my sympathy!

Daytime coop is where they will be active....being daytime and all.

Make it sturdy and big enough for your birds since you want to use it in another location too.

Maybe a hoop coop tractor would be something to consider.

Things to think about.....
Space needs to be proper whether the coop is temporary or not
Your climate
Predator protection...dogs aren't the only danger out there. Hawks, fox, coons, and many others like a nice chicken no matter what time it is.
Long term goals for your flock and the structure

Thanks...I just need to keep them out of the rain and wind.

It's more of a shelter than a coop because they will be able to wander around the yard, if they feel like it that is. I have some premier electric netting that will surround their home.
A hoop coop would be perfect. I can make a rectangle with some 2 x 4's and then attach the pvc to that. That could work. Thanks!

I was looking at buying a chicken coop...and wow they are small for the price you pay.

They are small and usually flimsy! And much, much smaller than the description implies! “Holds 12 chickens” might be referring to chicks, it’s so small!

I’ve seen folks use a doghouse, too. Which you can often find on Craigslist or FB Marketplace.

So this coop is going to be used at your new house because you can't take the current coop with you?

Livestock panels would work better than PVC, if you can get them to where they need to be.
