I was looking at mypetchicken.com, it says they will ship orders as small as 3 chicks. I thought they had to ship a minimum of 25 so they would stay warm during shipment. Are these not day old chicks they are selling? I imagine they are at 3$ each.

for some places, they only have the 25 chick rule during cold months.
ideal ships less than 25, but during the winter they add "males for warmth."

not really sure about mypetchicken, but im pretty sure there isnt a minimum during the spring/summer.

Mypetchicken.com can ship as little as 3 newly hatched chicks but you have to pay $25 extra for a heating pad to keep them warm.

If you don't want a large flock that's a pretty decent deal, I think.

I just ordered three chicks from My pet chicken. I did pay a bundle for them, but I only want three to start right now. Can anyone tell me if they have ordred from them successfully? I hope so!

So did anyone end up ordering from My Pet Chicken? I was looking into them because of the small order (I only need 3 chicks). What was the service like? For any of you who have had your chicks from them longer... were they correctly sexed? That's the other worry: Roos are out for us.

I got my chicks from mypetchicken. Customer service was great and overall it's been a good experience. $25 for the little heating pad is ridiculous, but it did allow me to get a small order of exactly what I wanted. They shipped monday and arrived tuesday. An extra chick was added in and everyone was happily chirping away in the box when I got them home.

Out of 6 chicks, there is only one I worry may be a roo, but a few people have told me it's probably just the way that particular breed develops, so we'll see. You take a risk of getting a roo regardless of where you get your chicks from. Sexing is never 100%.

I would definitely highly rec MPC, for their customer service alone. The woman I spoke to (the owner) was extremely friendly and helpful, not to mention the fact that I could tell she is passionate about chickens!

I have used Meyer Hatchery 2 times now, if you order less than 25 chicks, they charge you a $20 small order fee, not too bad if you want to start out small.

I ordered from My Pet Chicken too! I had a great experience and would highly recommend them! The only draw back was the $25 heat pack! YIKES!

But when you only want a few it is worth it.

I ordered 5 Buff Orpington pullets. I received 6 of them! I was worried about the extra one being a roo but it doesn't look that way.

I heard someone else ask them about any extras and their sex and they were told that they follow the order. So if you ordered only females... then if you get an extra it will be a female.

My babies are 6 weeks old now and are doing great!!

I would highly recommend My Pet Chicken!

Great info, thanks. Will look into the Meyer site, too. Checked out Ideal, but they didn't seem to have the same selection as My Pet Chicken.

So is it pretty common practice for them to include an extra in the small orders (I'm guessing it's just in case one of the other chicks doesn't make it)? On another of my posts, one reply recommended ordering 4 chicks if you wanted 3 hens. He thought that would cover the likelihood of one coming up a roo or the possibility of one chick not making it (he had both happen to his order of 4). Any thoughts on this???
