It's amazing how much there is to think about when building a chicken coop. I'm really trying to keep in mind that it's"just a chicken coop" but this project has been all consuming.
So I read vent information posted and I'm wondering about vent placement. There is one 16 x4 covered vent above the nest box on the right side and there is also a 16 x4 open hardware cloth window on the east side. The coop is a approx. 3x4 ft. The ht in the back of the coop is about 4 ft.
The back of the coop will be about a foot away from the house and the back faces north so there won't be direct wind. The roost will be in the back about 18 inches above so they will be about a foot below the vents. I don't plan on doing any heat in the winter and maybe I will be placing plexiglass over the window. I'm thinking about placing 2 4 x16 vents at the very top in the back. My first thought was placing 1 4 x 16 in vent above the door but since the roof slopes high it might be better to have air exchange at the top. ?? I plan on having no more than 3 hens. Still need to paint the inside and outside, vinyl down, The bottom "run" will be covered with hardware cloth and a sand floor. Can't wait to finish this so I can get my rapidly growing chicks out of their storage bin brooder.
Any thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated.
