Please direct me to some ideas!
I am planning to have 3-4 backyard hens in my small backyard in a climate where it is snowing several months a year and regularly gets to -20C (-4F).
I figure I can get a hardy breed such as the Chantecler, and keep the coop warm enough with some kind of insulation and heat-giving light. But I don't know. I've never done this before, and since technically chickens are not allowed in my city, I can't exactly ask my neighbours how they built theirs.
We also have fishers and I understand we need some protection underground with wiring going into the ground. And I'm also not sure how to construct a proper run. Our yard is quite small, think slightly bigger than a town home.
Thanks for ideas and direction!
