Small Farm Egg Production

My barred rocks are amazing layers I usually get 6 eggs from 7 hens a day. Plus their a dual purpose breed so some nice fried chicken from the boys!
Agreed, my seven 28 weeks old Barred Rocks gave me 44 eggs two weeks in a row. I don't know how they will do long term.
Avoid sexlinks, especially the red ones. They are very prone to reproductive disorders.
Agree, my first Flock, five 35 months old Golden Comets laid 32/35 eggs a week for the first year.
I lost one due to egg bound at 23 months.
One retired from laying at 24 months. I still have her.
I lost another at 25 months, she was bleeding from vent, possibly coccidiosis. I culled her.
Out of three, two are laying. One molted and didn't lay for 3 months this winter. The other molted but kept laying 3/5 a week. The 2 gave me 8 eggs last week and 13 the previous week.
I don't think I will get another red sex-link. It depends on my experience with my second Flock, Barred Rocks.
So far I love my Rocks. They are very friendly. If they stay healthy and sustain good egg production, I would buy again.
Also most are larger than my Comets. Of interest if you will consume boys or older hens. GC

I have a small egg business called Peppercorn Acres in Northern California. I have a license and my farm name is registered. I have EE's, barred rocks, orpingtons, wyandottes, RIR's, jersey giants and one speckled Sussex. I bought 4 delawares in September from a friend who moved. I started this flock early 2018 and they began to lay in June of 2018. From 28 layers I got 3,645 eggs, June to December 2018. I love the variety of the egg colors and want to get some white egg layers and some olive eggers too. This business has yet to totally pay for my coop, fencing, nest boxes, not to mention feed, but I love it anyway! :love

Oh my, you are in Oroville? I'm near Feather Falls just off Lumpkin Road and about 1/2 mile past the Enterprise boat ramp road. I'm on Craig Access! I have a broody right now and the eggs should hatch in a week! Tell me about your eggs, cost, etc. please. :p

The eggs are F1 olive eggers from my my ameraucana hens and wellsummer roosters.I sell the eggs for 2$ per egg and so far They have gotten 100% hatch rates, but it depends on how they are hatched. How many would you like if you are interested in buying some? And would you rather meet somewhere?

Yeah, I want 5. I'll have to stick them under my broody hen, I don't have an incubator, will that work? Are you on Facebook? I am as Judy Rasmussen. PM me your phone number and I'll call ASAP! Or just post it if you are not shy. . . .

I'm still a newbie at all this, less than 3 years into it, but last year got several different breeds (the Wyandottes were nice to start with, but I wanted to venture out). My Ancona pullet is laying like crazy! Haven't collected eggs yet today, but she had 23 eggs out of the 28 days in Feb and as of yesterday has laid 10 days in a row, including a huge double yolk egg. (posted on another thread earlier today, with photos if you are interested).
