small hatch

I think only 2 of my eggs are going to hatch.

Will they be okay with just the 2 of them or should I get a few more from the feed store

Is it harder on them with such a small number?
How long should I wait to see if the other might hatch?
The first one just came out about 10:45am, the second one is still working on it

Throw in a stuffed animal. I am using a blue bunny for my lone duckling

I put them in the evening time so this would be day 21 tonight. There are 8 total but they are from a 5 different hens. I dont know if they all were fertile. I never got the candeling thing figured out.

Okay...it can take up to day 24 or 25 for them to all hatch so don't be too quick to disgard them...and the second one that has pipped it can take upto 24 hours for it to get out of the shell...

You have lots of time yet before you have to worry that you only have 2 chicks ok?.. Be patient!!...

We have to get you use to candling!!...lol...

do you know where to buy a candler? TSC ? I checked rural king. I tried a flashlight but it's not bright enough. and i dont have a desk lamp. any other homemade ideas?

Do you have a worklight you use in the garage?
And a tin can or roll of toilet paper?

You can McGuyver a candler...

I just use a good small flashlight from Wal-mart...darken your room where you are candling...I have no problems seeing veins and embryos even in brown eggs....

Good luck! I have the same thing. I have just 2 chicks due to hatch next weekend if they keep developing. Keep us posted on your hatch.
