Small, I mean VERY SMALL, farms

I dont even know if there is 40 acres in one spot in CT chickenboy! I am in the center of a agrictural town, so there are some farms around, but here through town, the yards are smaller.

I had free ranging rabbits but some just ran away and some were ,wel, bobcat food

We have 7, however, we only use about one or so of it as we like to have a huge barrier between the highway, developments, wrecking yard, and businesses.

So in the acre or so that is open, I am limited by how much fence I have to fence off the garden plots as the chickens free roam. In these plots, I make sure they are very fertilized by the chickens and rotate plants every year so nothing gets depleted of nutrients. I also plant things at about half of the recommended spacing and do have to spread some chicken droppings around to ensure the plants get enough nutrients. I plant in double rows and use the fence around ground growing plants to grow vining plants.

Best of luck!

Your place looks beautiful! Looks like you've done well organizing and spacing. Do your rabbits ever dig burrows? I'm thinking of getting some baby bunnies soon as they are old enough, but not sure what kind of pen they need. Some friends of ours had bunnies and they dug burrows and always hid in them. Any suggestions?

The rabbit pen is lined with wire underneath. Otherwise, YES,, they would burrow constantly. I have put a ton of dirt and hay on top of the wire so they can enjoy a dig.

Silkie, 7 acres is great- That is one of the reason we do the deck garden, to keep this chickens out!

I rent, so I have to figure out how to design and construct movable, non-permanant enclosures and such, so that if I do move I don't have to leave it all behind.
The house sits on about 3 acres, shared with 2 other houses. "My" section is about 1 acre, with about 1/4 acre plowed out front for a garden. I am thinking of actually planting some corn, okra and tomatoes this year. Maybe some green beans too. I have a hydroponics set up indoors that I use to grow greens for my iguanas and I like to grow a bunch of different herbs in pots. This year, since I am making the pens for the goats and chickens, I was thinking of making an herb garden outside between the runs and just have to fence the ends to keep the deer and wild turkeys out.
I have an underground (actually the wire is just laying on top) fence for the dog, which I am going to re configure to go in a "moat" arounbd the garden plot so the dog can go all the way around to help keep deer and turkeys and such out.
