Small maggot like worm in waterer?

Hoping that @Ohchickfarming comes back to tell us what they found under the waterer.

I moved the waterer and saw nothing abnormal. Still getting the worms though. Weird because the chickens won't drink the water if worms are present. I ordered a waterer I am going to hang and see of that helps.

If you put your waterer up on blocks to the height of the chickens' backs they won't be kicking grunge into the water and will spill less too -- creating a less favorable environment for breeding insects.

You might consider training them to use a nipple waterer to help keep the water clean.

I ordered a hanging waterer but I think I might get the nipple bucket attachments also

You could just put a block or something under the waterer that you have.
Scrub it out real good first.

I'd not change to nipples during cold weather, it can take some time for the bird to learn to use them. ..and if it freezes where you are you'll need the horizontal type nipples and a heater.

I agree that transitioning is better done in moderate weather.

When I was training mine I got them to peck at the nipple by wedging a mealworm under it. They'd take the mealworm and realize that it was wet.

Then I started taking the other waterer out at night and not putting it back until later and later each day for a week until I was certain that they had mastered drinking from the nipples.
