I’m making a shade shelter inside the run for the girls to go under when they need to feel safe or want some more shade. It will be short enough they will get on it and perch. Kind of like a dog house, but with open front and back. What can I make the roof out of that I can easily hose off every so often? Something that looks nice. I currently use a tent shade thing from Amazon that is covered with a tarp, which works but im wanting ti to look a little nicer

Corrugated polycarbonate roofing panels work well. I like the Suntuf brand - they are easy to install and really are "tuf!" :p But they don't have a solid color option if that's what you're looking for.

I was going to make one of these this year with a piece of scrap metal roofing that isn’t really big enough for anything else. I was originally laying it on top of the run overhead fencing to give shade. I don’t feel the edges are sharper than other things the chickens are exposed to regularly - such as the bottom of the run fence hardware cloth where they excavate the perimeter. Also you can simply blunt the edge with a file or sandpaper if it’s sharp.

Poly panels are transparent so that won’t really give you shade, and may give a greenhouse effect depending on how much sun. A scrap piece of plywood, pallet slats, etc. would be better IMO.

Good luck
