Hi all,
A friend has got chickens and has asked for my advice about a pekin bantam chicken who is about a year old. I am unsure of the gender but the mass is said to be very solid and about 5 cm in diameter. As I have not seen for myself, I don't know what it feels like personally but the information I got was it is very solid. I don't believe it is cancerous as it has apparently been there for a while and with a small chicken, I would think that it would have died if it was the case. My first thought was an ingrown feather but I'm not sure how common they are in birds.
Please leave any advice aside from culling please. Taking the chicken to the vets is an option but I would rather get your opinion first.

Thank you in advance.

Is it located over her keel (breast bone?) Does she roost or sleep on the ground?
Thank for the reply its not located on her keel it is further across her body nearer her neck. She sleeps on the edge of the nesting box or in the nesting box.
