Providing supplemental light for chickens during the short fall and winter days is actually a very common practice amongst chicken keepers! By supplying light to chicks it can help them grow at a normal rate during shorter days and by providing it to hens it can increase egg production in the wintertime. How would you be using the light bulbs and how would you be using the app? They would like they could be fun for holiday decorations around your house but how would you use them in anything chicken related?
My thoughts are to keep it as simple and basic as I can. That way I am less likely to mess something up. But if you want to use those bulbs and can use them properly you can certainly use them. I think they can be set to provide natural type light.Thoughts on using bulbs that can be controlled from an app?
I should have made my intentions clearer. I don't want to use different colors, just simply the warm white but these are bulbs that I have and if I use something else I'll have to purchase a timer and or a different bulb. My question was simply about whether these bulbs are okay and safe to use with birds. Is the light from these safe? Are there fumes or anything that these put off that could be harmful? Why would you want bulbs that can change colors? You'd want bulbs that replicate natural light for those purposes.
em. I think they can be set to provide natural type light.
That's very valid! We all have different goals with our flocksWinter time for my hens is usually a time of rest.
They do not get supplemental lighting.
I know there are people on here who do use lights during the winter to increase egg production, but I like to give my hens the winter to take a break.

Thanks for your patience in answering questions. Sometimes the hardest thing on here is finding out what the real question is. It can get frustrating for both of us.My question was simply about whether these bulbs are okay and safe to use with birds.
Great idea. The lights will be fine and you'll probably be able to control them easily. I dont like letting my hens sit in the cold dark for 14 or 15 hours supposedly resting.Thoughts on using bulbs that can be controlled from an app?
