Smart Rat

I had a rat in my previous home that I swear had a PHD in pissing me off. Took 3 weeks to get that thing.

I had been told to use poison. Traps didn't work for me either....

It took me weeks to finally trap my rat visitor. I learned that I had to leave the live trap in the same place, and add bait without touching the trap. At first it was able to steal the bait until I wired it to the far end. It was huge, and thankfully, seems to have been a loner.

I have to leave dog food out for mine and sit in the corner, armed with a pellet gun and a night light on.
Thing was smart and destructive. Chewed threw the discharge hose of the dishwasher. What a mess.

I had an infestation in a coop. I tried everything. I eventually resorted to using poison. I used the rat bait stations and put them in pet carriers so only the rats could get to the bait. I didn't find any dead rats but there were tunnels which I think they went into and died. Good luck...
