Ok, I have a turkey that's sitting on a nest and has been close to the amount of time it takes to hatch the babies. My son was out weedeating and he accidentally smashed one of her eggs. The poult was still inside breathing and the inner layer is still intact. He really did a smash job on this egg. I told him to put it in the bator. What are the chances this poult will make it? It almost looks like one of the ones we sometimes have to wet and help out.
Is there anything I can do for it in the meantime? Maybe a wet paper towel around the rest of the egg to keep the inside moist or...? I don't think there's but a day or two left till they are due to hatch. Poor thing....

Just checked it again and did go ahead and put a wet paper towel around it. It's pretty bloody but still moving.

I don't think it'll make it.

Thanks Farmer Kitty... Haven't checked it again but am going to here shortly before going to bed and remoisten it's towel if it's still alive.

Still alive. Very dried out. Blood is all dry now though, no new blood it looks like. Seems as though the break occured around it's back side vs. it's face.

Son feels so badly about it. He was weedeating on the other side of the fence and didn't mean to scare the turkeys off, but once he did, figured it was ok to weedeat near the eggs because of snakes, etc. that we always have such a problem with. Not sure what happened from there.

I was hoping that momma turkey hen coming out with her poults would give me some sort of time line as to when this turkey will probably need to be finished hatching. I figure I'll probably have to help it out if it makes it that far? Going to go check her nest here soon and see if any are at least pipped. She's a sweet girl and won't peck me if I peek a bit.

Ok..good news is... the eggs are pipping outside. The bad news is, the two turkeys sitting next to each other are fighting over the eggs.

One started later than the other. Once everything hatches, we'll candle the eggs and put the rest in the bator.
