Smelly duck

Gm from nj. I have a 8 week old appleyard and he seems to have a Skunk smell yuck. The other mix flock is now pecking at him. I’ve washed him but now coop smells. Has anyone else had issues with Appleyards ? Is this a defense? Help I hatched from incubator Dexter the smelly duck

sounds like he got sprayed by a skunk?
@ruthhope @SilverBirds have you had any experience with this?

i searched google and got a skunk smell recipe for dogs but I don’t trust if these ingredients are really safe for ducks or not. don’t use anything unless your sure it’s duck safe.

Good luck with your stinky duck! Hopefully he is not stinky forever! Has he been skunky since he hatched? At least he is cute! Hopefully you can check back in in awhile to let us know if the smell has retreated.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC!

Sometimes, desperate situations call for desperate measures.

We have skunk around here and keep this recipe taped in our supply cupboard:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Mix the ingredients in a bucket or bowl and use immediately.

This would neutralize the smell and help remove the oils from the skunk spray off her feathers.

We used purely Dawn on this one that took a bath in a waste-oil pan. That took a lot of scrubbing. She was fine.
