Grand Rapuds, Mi
Hi all. I'm new to this site and as a new chicken and duck keeper have been an avid reader of posts these past few weeks. Thank you all for your advice and information.

I live in Grand Rapids, Mi on 4 acres. I enjoy sharing my space with 3 SL Wyandottes, 2 Isa Browns, 7 RIRs and 3 bantams, species yet unknown. They are about 5 weeks old. I recently added 2 Light Brahmas and 2 Americanaus, about 2 weeks old. We also have 4 Rouens, 2 Pekins and 1 Campbell.
I don't know the sex of the ducks, but am starting to hear quacking in a few so am assuming I have a male and female Pekin. The SLWs were straight run, but based on what I've read about tail feathers, think I may have 3 pullets. We'll soon see I hope. The bantams were also straight run. I'm curious to find out what they are and plan to post pictures for input in an appropriate forum.

We have them in one building, but separate sleeping areas. The ducks have a 6x6 stall, am still working through the best bedding. They have access all day, but are free range. The chickens have a large area with roosts which we will be expanding this summer. They are also free range, for about the last week- they venture further each day.

It's nice to meet you all. Thanks again for the great information. My feathered friends are more entertaining than I imagined, I'm hooked!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. You have a nice mix of breeds. Isa Brown is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are laying machines. You should get loads of eggs from those two girls.) I'm a chicken person as ducks are too just too messy for me personally, however I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

I love love chickens. I love love to hatch! :) Welcome, hope you enjoy coming in and talking chickens..or ducks. Plenty of good folks here to share help, stories, and the fun of it all.

There you go! I usually suggest that new people go check out their state thread, you never know who they might find near by! :)

The Michigan state thread is full of very nice, helpful people. I hope you will subscribe to it. We always like to take a gander at chicks and see if we can id them also.

Welcome to Backyard chickens.

Thanks everyone! I will check out the Michigan thread. And my apologies, I meant to say I don't know the breed of the bantams, I'm pretty sure they're chickens ;).
