I find it a little odd how often people feel the need to mock those with differing opinions.

Are you serious it was a 6ft long Copperhead?? I have NEVER seen one that big in my life! You didn't happen to take pictures, did you? If you did, dead or alive, I would love to see them. A Copperhead that large could be a legend! lol

I'm sorry.. did not mean to mock... I'm in a snarky mood today..

I guess a more constructive approach would have been for me to say that I like snakes, and I understand theur usefulness, but I would have killed it to, if it were me. As a nurse, I worry that encouraging people who are not familiar with snakes to catch and release a poisonous snake is not a good idea. If you know how to handle a dangerous snake, and are confident that you can do it without danger to yourself or others, then by all means, rehome them. Otherwise, I think it's best not to try and handle a snake that could cause you harm.

No No pix, haven't figured out how to post pix, anyway haven't you heard everything in Tennessee is always bigger, and he isn' t the first about that size we have found, told you we lived way back in the woods, we also have rattlesnakes about the same size, When the guy was clearing the land he found a couple, actually took them home, said he was going to EAT them, I'll stick to my frog legs and gator tail.I'm originally from Fla. marrie

Hey, rodents are just trying to make a living.. they provide a valuable service like spreading plague and wiping out entire populations of peoples! You should trap your rodents, and take them someplace else, like your local chinese resturant.. at least, that's where a lot of the rodents here in Louisiana go.. so says the health department

LOL! Yeah, muskeetos are just tryin to make a livin to! And fleas! But we caint forget about ticks!

I like snakes, always have, but if I see one near my critters, especially a venemous one, I'm gonna kill it, not take it over to the neighbors! I mean, I would be hacked off if someone came over and dumped a box full of rattlers and copperheads at my coop!

Would of been gone at my house too. I live in the UP of MI and have yet to hear of a posionus snake here but it would not matter it would be dead. I know I don't have snakes here as I have too many chipmunks and squirls and if I could get rid of them they would be gone as well. I sure miss my old tom cat (fixed but never liked indoors), he keeps going back to the old place so they begged to keep him. He left me love gifts everyday. Dead snakes and mice and squirls and chips. Man I miss him.

As far as mocking goes, well it amazes me even more the people who post on the preditor and pest boards who will come on and say oh shouldn't kill it or why did you kill it, you should just bring it to the neighbors (out of my site out of my mind). Everyone has a right to their way of handling things and should not have to deal with people who come on and criticize them for their choice of managing their homes and animals. I am all for having your own opinion but if you manage your problelm in a different way then share it in a different way such as, well I personally would not kill a snake I would take it to the neighbors so it will become their problem, or I wouldn't take it to the neighbors but I would take it 10 miles down the road for that guy to have the problem.

I see a post that says I relocated it I sure don't go on and say well ya should of killed it, even though I think that way.

Just my opinion seeing as how the mocking a poster came up

It wasn't a copperhead, they don't get nearly that long.

And therein lies another problem. I think its fairly certain what a rattlesnake looks like, or a coral snake, but I would question myself on knowing what any other snakes looked like without finding identification from a good source.

From the NC Co-op Extension:

"A Copperhead snake bite needs medical attention, is extremely painful, and may cause extensive scarring and loss of use. Many people are bitten while trying to kill or handle the snake. Don't take chances -- avoid these snakes.

'Copperhead bites are typically not fatal,' says Dr. Peter Bromley, N. C. Cooperative Extension Specialist in Zoology. Small animals, like small dogs, may receive a fatal bite from a copperhead. The venom causes local tissue destruction and secondary infection often sets in. If you or your pet are bitten by any snake that you suspect is venomous, get medial attention immediately. For the most part, if you let snakes alone, they'll leave you alone."

And any snake over two feet may as well be six feet as far as I'm concerned! It'll bite you just as hard!
