Yesterday I went out to check on my chickens and I seen my BO hen running around with what looked like a worm but as I looked closer I seen it was a little grass snake

I killed this guy in my front yard today. It was about 5 feet long stretched out!! Normally I don't mind snakes, not really scared of them but when I have several chickes in the outside brooders...so sorry!

They are, and will continue to be, my worst nightmare. Had one last year that ran over my toe on it's way to the hen house! Thank goodness there was a shovel out there.....I grabbed, I stabbed and dispatched before I had a chance to think about it. Although I was aware it was a copperhead as I had just looked them up a couple of nights before. All I could do was stand there and scream for my DH to come. He was in the house and heard me. I could see the back of his head and saw him pop up on the first scream! He got out there and was amazed and wanted to know what I wanted him for.....I wanted him to take the snake away!!!

Yep be thankful you didn't find THIS in your bathroom like we did. Or my hubby did and came to wake me up to tell me to take care of a snake. I was surprised he could talk lol, he is terrified of them.

Looked like we had a little mouse and the snake was looking for it. Doesn't look too imposing in the first pic but it was almost 5 ft long and bigger around than a toilet paper tube. Plenty big enough for me to call my neighbor and beg him to come get it out haha. Which he did, God love him. (by the way, those are car mags just so you know lol

Funny, cause I try to wrangle any snake I come across in the yard, lol. Guess it's all those animal planet shows working in my mind. Usually the black racers and rat snakes are easy to grab, except when they spray musk on you!

I've never seen many poisonous snakes here, other than the occasional coral snake. They're surprisingly docile, but I still don't touch them, but box 'em in and throw them in the woods. I'm not too fond of it when people kill non-venemous snakes without a good reason, unless there's chickies to protect!

@Mommy2Blaze - Nice texas rat snake right there, I would have kept it.

Yeah we didn't kill it. It was a big rat snake and I saw no reason to kill it because living on 11 acres, we can use all the help with rats and mice we can get lol. I just had my neighbor come get it and take it on the back part of the land. I just don't want it in my house.

I don't believe in killing a non venomous snake either but my hubby says the only good snake is a dead snake. he is seriously so scared of them.
