Hello,

In Florida we call that a Yellow Rat Snake. Had a couple around my coop. Didn't mind them because they eat rats. It wasn't til I closed the coop one night and caught a big one with a half swallowed chick in it's mouth that they had to go. No more snake for me! The choice is yours.

This is what I am use to seeing when you say corn snake

Usually these guys get killed by people who think they are copperheads

I agree with the rat snake indentification, either a gray or yellow. As for a garter snake, the scales are all wrong. Garter snakes have rough, keeled scales and are pretty flat/dull in appearance.
All of the rat snakes are notorious egg eaters but like the other have said they also keep down the rodent population. Pretty docile fellers too.

Yep, definitely not a garter snake. Definitely the yellow ratsnake.
Good for you, for relocating it. They have no place in my coop if they eat my eggs or chicks, but there's also no place for vindictiveness. He is an important part of the ecosystem... a half-mile or so away from the coop!

That's what we have is the yellow coloration, and alot of them lol. They are very docile as well.

They are the most common here, followed by copperheads and rattler's

Every now and then you see a hog nose snake but that's about it.
