Yes, Rattle Snake, different from the little one I shot with 357, this one surprised my in high grass out dove hunting ... 12 gauge took its head off at 18"!

That is seriously a neat shot for a surprise. Those snakes look really mean, we have spitting cobras which are similiar in length and width. They always breed in the compost, because it gets nice and warm, but at least we know where they are. We get the odd rock python every now and again and they can grow huge. Whenever there are marrows sticking out of my veggie basket the cats jump a mile its quite funny to watch. Well hope you enjoyed your snake, does it taste like chicken, like everyone says?

Here is the little snake I posted first, it actually reached up and struck at the bullet, but trying to catch a 357 Magnum in your mouth is not a good choice, that is why you only see one bullet hole in its "neck" on the way out ... Fast little buggers!



Here is one I found out back of our elementary school when I worked there ... It was swallowing a rabbit it had caught ...

I am absolutely speechless (for once) lol well not quite.!!! those are the most fantastic pictures - You should do a book on all your photos and stories.really it would make fascinating readimg.It does look like an alligator, arre those 'ears' or horns on its head?

AliP: we have rattlesnakes here, too. The juvenile snakes are venomous right away. Our 85 lb pit bull was bitten on the nose by one that was no more than 6" long. Within 30 minutes his head was horribly swollen. Don't worry, he was fine. All it took was 2 1/2 days in the emergency vet hospital, 2 vials of antidote & $2500. Ouch.

Here it is after it had lunch ... I waited until it was done, as I wanted to get all these pictures, plus I also did a video ... It did not really want to come out and be sociable with its belly full, but Mr Shovel did get it flung out of the bushes it was hiding from me in ... It got a cut on its side from that argument, as it kept trying to strike the shovel ... then I shoveled off its head ... Here it is with rabbit tucked inside, and it's head off to the side!



Yes, little ones do have venom, and they tend to give it all! Adults can regulate how much venom to inject, if any, (called a dry bite) depending on size of critter it wants to eat ...

Eye brows - they must take some plucking!!! yes did see the ear, definitely wrong place wrong time - I have seen that swollen belly before here with a snake it is quite incredible how they do it -I read somewhere they dislocate there bottom jaw to get their mouths wide. Either way nasty things - sounds like you have a few out there. Does the tail really rattle like on the movies and do you every do anything with the tail?
