My eggs that were only a week away from hatching have been eaten by a snake. What can I do? Please help me! This is my second time to lose eggs. The first time she stopped sitting. (probably the snake) Now all of the eggs are gone. The coop was locked. I think I know where it got in. I need to help get rid of it. The guy at the ranch said he saw a 7ft long snake in the pasture next to where my coop is located. He is not sure what type of snake it is. I know that the rooster and the hen put up a fight - as there are feathers all over in the coop near the nest.

put golf balls in nest. a snake eats eggs whole then digests eggs. he can't digest golf balls and the golf balls kill the snake.

Sorry to hear that

Go to the hardware store or farm and ranch store and get some resin eggs. They are about the size and shape of chicken eggs and come in brown or white. Put a couple of them in the nest box and leave them. They will pick up the smell of the chicken and pass for real eggs. The snake will eat them along with or instead of the real eggs. They will not pass through the digestive tract and the snake cannot break them. They will kill the snake. I have found a couple of mine months later in the woods with the skeleton of the snakes that ate them.

Won,t they be able to tell the difference? I keep seeing these eggs made of chalk at the feed store - is that what they are for?

I don't like killing things - however they do not belong in my coop eating my eggs. I think I will try the resin eggs. And keep you all updated.
