Look at this snake we found on our patio earlier today.

We found out that it is a Garter snake ( non poisonous).

Snakey is lucky the chickens didn't find it! They would eat him!
I like garter snakes. They com in many pretty colors and don't eat much of anything I want hanging out in my yard. Same for lizards. We just had to relocate a skink who would have been lunch if the chickens had found him first.

Great Snake!

I have taken 5ft, 4ft, 2ft black snakes out of my coop since it got Warm. But the upside is I have no copperheads. I have one King that stays under my house but the black ones will get lazy and eat your eggs. We took those three to my brother-in-law because he has had trouble with copperheads.

I have a seven foot that when he is in my garden I leave him to do his business. He eats the rabbits and mice that will destroy a garden.

He has only once out of three years been in my coop. My husband always gets him out and takes him down to Sugar Creek that runs up behind our property.
Most stay gone for one season and they'll visit once next spring.

I gave a small pine snake to my chickens two weeks ago. That was good entertainment. And high in protein.

In the 7 years we've lived at our home on over an acre and a half, I have NEVER seen any kind of snake. I wonder why? I think it's strange that I've not seen a single one.
