Snakes and mice!

When we set up the current coop, we put the chicken door up higher so critters could not get in. The feed bill has dropped considerably, everything in the coop is cleaner (no rodent evidence) & the chickens are no longer jumpy from seeing (or on the alert for) critters in the coop.

The chickens easily fly up onto the little roof/platform with a chicken ladder on it for their footing. I took the ladders off of my last double decker coop & saw that they could easily fly up, so we put this coop (our 3rd) together differently & am happy we did. In the pic below, the chicken door has burlap strips hanging to cut the winter wind & avoid big drafts. The other pic shows interior & how the higher chicken door works inside, oh & my broody w/chicks on floor. There is nothing for critters to climb up on to get inside, & I don't leave any food out in the run; there is a short piece of plywood that is not attached to the roof/platform for wind or hot sun break. Problems solved! Best wishes. View attachment 1270275 View attachment 1270280
I like this idea!

I keep 1 golf ball in each nest for snakes, it wont stop them from coming in, but they dont come back after eating a ball,,, they cannot pass them.
