This really doesn't have anything to do with my chickens but we have been finding tons of snakes in our yard this spring. I'm guessing they're trying to find water since we're going through an extreme drought here. I usually just enjoy them and let them be. Most of the snakes have been garter snakes and rat snakes, which I don't mind. I even pick them up and play with them for a bit

....but if they're poisonous and end up in my backyard...they aren't going to make it out alive. So far in a about a month I've killed 3 copperheads. They haven't been over 2 feet but they're still just as dangerous as the big ones. I don't like killing snakes, I think they're beautiful BUT I have 2 kids so I'm taking any chances...Is anyone else noticing more snakes?

a shovel isn't just for digging lol

I posted about this snake . It was a copperhead as well. It literally attacked me one evening when I was going into my coop. I grabbed a brick that was holding the door open & nailed it. Everyone was saying that their not aggressive. Wrong!!! Maybe some aren't b

ut this one was.

I live in Central Texas and I've seen lots of snakes this year - much more than usual. I have two Australian Shepherds and when they are barking like crazy I know they've cornered a snake. All mine have been tiny grass snakes - thankfully!

That first snake is a Ball Python a snake that is not native to any north american area. I would assume that you killed someones pet or decendent of one. This snake is a great pet and we have one. The other I think was a copperhead as you supposed.

The snake I killed was not a ball python....I KNOW...I have one as a pet lol. It was a copperhead. 100% It may look different b/c its laying on its side.

Also, the head is missing in my picture, I chopped it off.
