Snakes in the coop, how do I get rid of this problem?

Today I went in to get some eggs and there was a little snake in there, It was 1.5-2 feet long. I hate ALL snakes so I killed this one. I think they live under the coop. How do I get rid of this problem, I also have some smaller chicks out there and we have milksnakes which could eat the chicks. Mothballs?

Here is a current thread on the topic. Of you use mothballs, I'd put them in something with holes where the smell can get out but where nothing can get to them.
