Snakes, Toads

I live in south-east queensland on the Gold-coast. I found this video on youtube about them... I hope your not thinking that its likely the guineas will not be fast enough, Thats a big reason why I got them

I've "dealt with"(fill in the blanks..) several before, They do try to get away but if cornered or feel threatened they do try to defend them selves and give chase. I was in the dam one day when that happened, I saw a brown snake head in the water, I swear I was running on the top of the water!

perchie.girl, Next time I pass the produce store I'll have to get myself some millet. Those pictures were amazing!

Nice to meet you Kyle, I have dealt with reptiles all of my life, there was a time where I kept about 35 different cobras but now I'm old and slow so I stay with things that only make me bleed when they bite. Rattle snakes strike very fast, there are very few animals that can get out of the way. Mongoose are great snake hunters in most of Africa and Asia, but when they are up against a rattle snake they don't do so well. In the 1850's miners here in CA used to get mongoose and fight them against rattle snake, and even though the mongoose always killed the snake the bites were so fast and most of the mongoose would die after killing the snake. I don't know about guineas, they come from Africa and probably have to deal with cobras and other snakes that strike like them. The problem with Australian snakes is they are much more likely to strike rather then display. Cobras hood up as a display and don't strike as a first defense, as you saw in the video the brown will try to run but also repeatedly strikes and it's strike is fairly quick.

I guess my point to all of this is I don't know how the guineas will react or handle the more aggressive snakes. My hope is the guineas activity will just keep the snakes away just because of the commotion. Snakes can't hear but they feel vibrations in the ground really well and the activities of the birds might be enough just to keep them out of the yard. I would be interested to hear what happens, either if they meet or also if they just keep the snakes away with all of their activity.

Ok thanks, I'll for sure post back on here and let everyone know how it goes and if I ever see any again.
