Snatched from the jaws... now my feet are bleeding.

i've experienced the "Super strength/stamnia" to deal with a threat. numerous times. and my uncle which works off shore.. was telling a story about a guy that a fan fell on. and said when my uncle saw it he ran over there and flipped the fan completely over with no help, went back a hour later after everything calmed down. he couldn't even budge the fan. now with me. when i hear a predator. first though in my mind is "shoes" then "Gun" and "open the door. dont walk into it", guns loaded before i even go around there as well to make sure if its something huge.. im not trying to load it while its running at me

Isn't adrenaline a wonderful thing. Turns an ordinary woman into a super hero that can leap over barbwire fences.

Seriously though, I'm glad you were able to save your pullet. Your roo is probably trying to figure out how you did it too.

Thanks everyone. Evelyn seems fine, but she must have had a scratch somewhere. I couldn't find it for the life of me, but we're keeping her on antibiotics to be safe. She lost a lot of feathers around her neck, but the others seems to keep the bald spots covered up.

I'm virtually certain what got her must have been a bobcat--for some reason, I was thinking a bobcat had a shorter, more lynx-like tail, but it is the length that I saw, not as bushy as a fox tail. Wow--gald it ran, but maybe I could have taken it barehanded in that state. Hear me roar.

I can't imagine why it dropped her to run, though. All I saw through the bushes were feathers, and I was sure she was already dead, or so near death it would be painful for me to see, and I'd have to find the hatchet. But she was just standing there in a pile of her feathers.

I don't understand it, but I'm glad.

I called the DNR, and they said someone would call me back today. I only have about 30 chickens. I wonder if they will relocate it? I can't really understand, either, why it would attack in the middle of the day. They're mostly nocturnal. Plus, we have SO MANY rabbits around that I can look out sometimes and count seven in the yard just hanging with the chickens. We have a ton of wild turkey, too, so it's not as if other prey is scarce.

When the opportunity knocks... they will come. Usually when they trap an animal that has been a nuisance, they will relocate to prevent any further problem and to keep it from getting hurt. Keep an eye on her though, for rabbies. There are few things that keep nocturnal animals out during the day, scarce food, which you said is not an issue, no water and they are hunting for it, and sickness. Good luck and hope that you both feel better.
