Problems always crop up on a Saturday afternoon when there's no way to get the vet for two days.
I first noticed one of my younger roosters (about 4 months) making loud gurgling noises and then a hen sneezing. Seperated those two and then found noticed two others the same age with what sounds like respiratory illness of some type. I have never had to treat chickens with anything. I've had them in the past, just never any as dumb as these ones!
These are out of a group of five that have never learned to roost, so they sleep on the floor in a corner of the chicken house, while the seven adult chickens roost. The younger five will go outside (pasture range) but hang out in the in the barn for half of the day, so that I have to herd them out (and they go back in when I leave). Despite being a rather desirable variety/breed, I've about had it with these guys.. Ok, rant is over..
Should I just put the fifth one in with the others or is it possible she didn't get sick despite sleeping in a big pile with the other four?
Anyone have ideas on what I could do for them? I have some animal supplies, but nothing made for chickens.
I have vetRX for rabbits, but I've read that it won't actually cure anything.. I think the only antibiotic I have on hand is Pro Pen G, but I don't know if I could use it on them.
