Hello,
I noticed today that my five month old red frizzled Cochin bantam is sneezing more than usual. She is sneezing every ten seconds or more. Her face is also a little paler than usual, like it is when she is falling asleep. When I went over to the coop all the chickens usually get up to greet me, but today she just layed down in the corner and sneezed. I picked her up to see if her beak and nostrils were alright, and there was nothing out of the ordinary, but when she had enough and flew out of my arms, she layed down again. I think her legs are fine because I did see her walking normally for a few seconds before she layed down again. She just started laying about a week ago. I have been away for the past week so I don’t know when this started, but the person taking care of my chickens said she was less active then her sister, but not to the point of something being wrong. Her breathing is normal, no wheezing or chirping.
I’m really worried it’s some kind of respiratory infection. Can someone tell me what’s going on with her? Should I take her to the vet? Is there something I can give her?
Thank you so much for any information.

Infectious bronchitis, a virus, can cause frequent sneezing. Dust, mold from wet conditions, and environmental elements could also be possible. What type of bedding do you use? Viruses do not respond to antibiotics, but have to run their course over several weeks. Usually infectious bronchitis will affect more than one chicken in a flock over several weeks, and is the most common of respiratory diseases. Frequently IB can have or be a secondary infection of other diseases, such as MG and others. Here is some reading about IB, MG, coryza, ILT, aspergillosis and other respiratory diseases:

Thank you so much!!!
I mixed some rooster booster into her water and I have been checking on her and having her drink every thirty minutes. She seems to have perked up quite a bit since this morning, although she is still sneezing. We are using fossil shell dust underneath some wood pellets—I think my dad may have added more dust recently so I’m hoping that it’s just been too dusty. Is there anything I can do for her if it is just dust?

Are you talking about DE (diatomatacious earth?) I would not use that in my coop. It can be harmful to the breathing of both people and chickens. Many use it, but it can be dangerous, and it doesn’t really prevent mites or lice. It does not work as a wormer either. It can be useful to dry out things, but I would prefer to use pine shavings.
