Sneezing Chickens

If you think you may have parasites use FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth instead of poisons. Put it in their dust bath and you can even add a bit to their feed. Wear a dust mask.

Another thing to try is to use dry leaves instead of straw or hay for bedding. It could be a mold problem. Straw and hay can grow harmful molds if they get damp. My chickens were sneezing and I switched to dry leaves and they're all fine (with NO medication). Also, chickens can get the common cold just like people do. Medicines won't cure a virus, they'll get over it on their own. Vitamins in their water might help them get over it. Don't panic or cull your flock if they don't seem that sick and I really doubt that there's any reason not to eat well cooked eggs (as long as you're not medicating them).

In what doses and where do you find the info on natural antibiotics?
I noticed one of my hens breathing threw her mouth, sneezing and shaking her head yesterday and today.
She is not lethargic and is eating well.
Should I quarantine her?
It has been in the 100 plus degrees here in Texas.
I have used Diatomaceous Earth for years on all my animals so I have not had a mite problem to my knowledge.
I do have a lot of wild birds around who eat out of the chicken food in the pen.
I love this hen.
Her name is Margie and she is a bearded Aracona about 3 years old.

I am having the exact same problem. My Aracauna is sneezing and shaking her head. No lethargy and eating well. I am new to chickens, have a flock of 11 that are only about 18 weeks old. Any suggestions?

Same problem here with my EE. She is my favorite bird I have. I am worried! She doesn't seem sick but is sneezing and shaking her head.

Hi! I realize this forum is a couple of months (and years!) old, but was wondering if you guys with the birds sneezing & shaking her head - did you fix it? We have 1 8month old buff orpington that is doing this. Started after the flock got lice and we were dusting with DE. I am putting GSE and garlic in her water and she's quarentined, but so far no improvement. She's been isolated for about a week. Stopped laying too. But otherwise seems fine, not lethargic, eating well, etc.

My BSL hen Witchy has been sneezing for aprox 1 week I just stared noticing some discharge . I took her to the vet and she is on baytril / enrifloxcian 10 ml / 1 liter of water ( 24mg /ml ) so far she is doing ok . Still eating / drinking etc . She is isolated from the other 2 birds she was in with , so far the other 2 haven't showed any signs . While she was at the vet I did a fecal check in her and she has capillaria . ( I work at the vets office ) I have wormed her with panacur and I wormed the 2 others also . I also have 14 other birds . They have always been in a seperate coop , so far so good . Hopefully everyone will pull through , I'm not ready to cull them yet , nor do I think I could .
