So my chicks just turned 8 weeks old and I’ve noticed recently they sneeze?! I’m a first time chicken mom and I had certainly never heard a chicken sneeze so this came as quite a shock! I saw a thread on this website and some people were posting possible respiratory diseases and I’m now concerned 😟.
My chicks don’t have anything like runny noses or other symptoms. Sometimes I’ll be holding one of the little ones in my hand and she’ll just sneeze out of the blue. Doesn’t happen SUPER often and certainly not everyday but I have heard it a few times. I use pine shavings as bedding and they spend a lot of time outside too and love to dig around in the dirt. So far they’ve seemed very healthy, always running around and very happy. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Most chickens seem to sneeze once in a while. I remember noticing that mine sneezing when they were younger. I would say that with no other symptoms it is normal, as long as they aren't doing it constantly.

Chickens will sneeze if they get dirt or water in their noses, its not uncommon. Its like us, if we get something in our noses, we sneeze

Thank you! Wasn’t a huge concern of mine because it’s just once in a while but the other thread had me worried! Thank you! 😁👍

I assumed so. Though the first time shocked me as I had never heard a chicken sneeze after a few more I assumed it was normal, it was just the other thread that had me a bit concerned but thanks for the help! 😁👍
