Hey all!
I have a chicken that is sneezing and sounds congested. This has been going on for over two weeks now. Yesterday I noticed another one starting the same symptoms.
The 1st is an almost 3y RIR. The 2nd one is about 21w (has not stated laying yet).

I started reading on causes and looking into this tylan 50 but every place I try to order from wants a vet prescription. There are no vets here that will see my chickens.
Wondering how other here are able to get this.

Any thoughts are appropriated!

There are quite a few respiratory diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungus. Only a bacterial disease such as mycoplasma (MG) may respond to an antibiotic like Tylan, oxytetracycline, or doxycycline. MG usually will cause bubbles in one eye, sometimes a sunken eye, or swelling of the eyelid or face. If you are only seeing sneezing and congestion, it may be a virus called infectious bronchitis or IB. IB lasts about 1 month, and will go away without treatment, unless it becomes compicated with a secondary infection.

Omg @Eggcessive I do hope that is all it is! I have just been watching it for the past couple weeks because she does not seem sickly, just snotty lol.

Thank you for the info. I will continue to monitor.

Hopefully, it is just the virus. If you see bubbles or foam in an eye or swelling in the face on one side, then try to get some antibiotic. Many people overuse antibiotics when they are not necessary, but they can be helpful with an MG infection. If you see any wrinkled egg shells in your hens, that is a symptoms of IB.

Infectious bronchitis can make carriers of a flock for 5 months up to a year, so it is best to close your flock for a year after recovery and not hatch any chicks, or the disease will still be passed on.
