Hi guys, one of my ducks is sneezing, I started them out on wood shavings in their house but thet were fine and very sharp, then changed to hay which they seem to like. I change they hay every other day and clean any damp or toilet daily. Could it be this or have they caught a cold or something?

-hay is dusty also so it could be dust, any other symptoms? how often is the sneezing? ducks don't catch colds but they can get respiratory infections, any drainage from nares or eyes? do they have a way to wash their heads?

Yes they have a big bowl they dunk whole head in and pool.No other symptoms yet. What other bedding can I try them on?

I have no idea what it could be other than dust if no other symptoms, and if they are acting normal other wise, eating drinking and running around doing ducky things? I use the horse shavings for my flock they are not fine like saw dust and there is minimal dust. Maybe you can find it, our feed store carries it. also when I used straw years ago and probably hay is the same there's no absorbency the poop just sits on the top and it molds pretty quick too. I know you said you clean it often but I just think shavings are much better. I use deep litter in all my coops and scoop out mess daily stir and it good to go and add new shaving weekly. If your not seeing any more symptoms I'd just monitor so you can be on top in case any others show up. And add some unpasteurized ACV to their drinking water dunking water it is really good beneficial stuff 1-2 Tab. to 1 gallon of water. I use it 3X a week in my flocks drinking dunking water. oh and forgot some have also used the horse pellets as bedding, I haven't so can't say if I like them or not, but a few have mentioned it.

thankyou have noticed one of my girls wont close her beak?? worried about her now x
Now that does sound worrisome, how old are they? and what temps are you having there? is she panting or breathing through her mouth. make sure she can swallow so you can rule out she may have something stuck in her throat. I'd still use the ACV. I wouldn't go to antibiotics just yet but again monitor. The ACV if she did have something stuck would help to clean out any bacteria.

she went to drink but dont know if she managed ro swallow she seems to be breathing ok, not sure how to handle her to check her throat? rang company where i got them and she said she may just be hot its over 30 degrees here at moment very hot. They are fully grown. Have no body here to help me. How do i check throat and remove if anything stuck? xx

If it's hot they do pant. we just came off a heat wave and my June babies were, and some of them were in my air conditioned house lol Could they be having a reaction to something? any paints, chemicals? foods etc...

have just been feeding them layer pellets they have ate spinich leaves, rocket leaves and been nibbling in the grass and digging mud. shes just siiting there dont no how to check throat, she cant seem to open beak any further to prune or anything xxx
